Tottenham vs Liverpool, Champions League final 2019: Harry Winks return hands Mauricio Pochettino boost

Harry Winks has handed Mauricio Pochettino a boost by returning to training this week.

The England midfielder has been back in full training since Monday, just three weeks after a successful minor operation to repair his femoral sheath, the part of his groin that had been causing him pain in recent months.

After a busy season, Winks had been struggling with the groin problem for months and had only been able to start one game in the last two months, the Champions League quarter-final first leg 1-0 home win against Manchester City at White Hart Lane.

He eventually underwent the operation on 29 April with the hope that he would be able to play in the Champions League final if Spurs reached it. And he will now be able to train for almost two weeks, before Spurs fly out to Madrid next Wednesday.

The prospect of Winks being fit for the final gives Pochettino the prospect of fielding his strongest midfield again against Liverpool, if he reunites Winks and Sissoko in the middle of the pitch.

Harry Kane and Jan Vertonghen have also been involved with the group again this week as they step up their attempts to be ready for the final.
