Rangers loss will jolt Celtic into action says Alex McLeish

It wasn’t the performance or result Celtic wanted to see, but it could be the thing that kick starts their summer.

That’s the feelings of former Rangers manager and Aberdeen legend Alex McLeish.

The Hoops gave arguably their worst display of the season at the weekend when they meekly capitulated to Steven Gerrard’s side at Ibrox, going down to a 2-0 scoreline without ever looking like they could do something about it.

McLeish thinks Celtic’s defeat at Ibrox in May could be pivotal next season

Far from pressing the panic button though, Eck feels that the club chasing the treble Treble this month will use the defeat as impetus to get the chequebook out after the season comes to an end,

He said: “Rangers have certainly given Celtic food for thought.

“Let’s face it, you hear Pep Guardiola saying how much he owes to Jurgen Klopp because of the phenomenal finish to the English Premier League and the amount of points those two teams got.

“That’s what happens with Rangers and Celtic. Rangers drive Celtic and Celtic drive Rangers.

“Given that Celtic lost that game rather meekly, even though they are  preparing for a cup final and maybe with a few tired legs and maybe not focusing as much as they would be, they might think they need to be looking  at their recruitment.”

“The most important thing for him now if they’re going to challenge Celtic is recruitment.

“That is the key to any success.”
