The north Londoners are on the verge of signing the out-of-favour Denis Suarez from the Catalan club.
It’s understood that Gunners boss Unai Emery has convinced the 25-year-old – who he managed for a season at Sevilla – to move to the Emirates on loan until the end of the campaign.
The north Londoners will then have the option to secure the Spain international’s services permanently at the end of the season.
Emery is keen to bolster his attacking options this month but can only do so with loan signings.
And according to reports, he will also try to lure Suarez’s Barca team-mate Malcom to the London this month.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim the 21-year-old – who has failed to hold down a place in the starting XI at the Nou Camp – is on Emery’s radar.
They also report that the Spanish champions – who signed Kevin-Prince Boateng on Monday – are willing to let the Brazilian leave on loan this month.
Barcelona’s director of football Eric Abidal recently hinted that several fringe players could leave the club this month, saying: “You never know.
“We are always working internally and there are decisions that the coach will make.
“We are happy with the template but there are always possibilities. Players who play little can stay or may ask to leave. All scenarios will be evaluated.”
Barca boss Ernesto Valverde echoed Abidal’s statement at a press conference on Tuesday night, in which he revealed that Suarez will more than likely be playing his football elsewhere come the end of the month.
“We are happy with the squad but there are always possibilities for departures for those who maybe do not feature as often,” the Barca boss told the media on Tuesday.
“Those players could stay here and we would be happy or they could leave in search of more opportunities, we will evaluate all possibilities for them. I don’t think there will be any more arrivals.
It is true – it is possible that Denis will leave but I don’t know what will happen. Boateng has come in because Munir [El Haddadi] went out. We work internally and there is a lot of planning involved of which I am a part, but we will see how the market progresses.”
Barcelona will next be in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Seville to take on Sevilla in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final tie.
Arsenal, meanwhile, will welcome Manchester United to the Emirates on Friday night in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
