Lucas Moura completed a second-half hat-trick in the 96th minute as Spurs came from 3-0 down on aggregate to book their place in the final, ending’s run from the qualifiers and past the likes of holders Real Madrid and Juventus.
Tadic has been one of Erik Ten Hag’s star men this season, scoring 38 goals in all competitions, as Ajax won the domestic double in his first season after joining from Southampton last summer.
The Serbian international revealed that he went home following the Tottenham game and could not hold back his emotion.
“It had been a while since Ajax won the double,” Tadic told Ajax Life. “This was a fantastic season, we became increasingly hungry. Ajax made the Champions League exciting. We deserved to play the final.
“You know, when I’m disappointed, I like to cry. Surrendering yourself to the emotion. Then you get it all out of your body,” said Tadic.
“When I got home, I turned on some sad Serbian music and sat on the couch. Then I went to bed. I think I seriously didn’t cry for an hour that night. When I saw my children the next morning, that also helped.”
Tadic’s sensational form this season came as quite the surprise, but revealed a winter break and Ajax’s attacking football helped him thrive having battled relegation with Southampton the campaign before.
“I was not used to that anymore, because you just continue playing in England, but I really needed that,” he said. “In addition, I pay close attention to my diet and it also depends on the way of playing.
“If, like Southampton, you have to defend and fight every week, it is physically tiring. Our game gave me energy this season. “
